Selling Candy at School Part 1

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for your actions and if you get in trouble trying to sell candy at school it is not my fault!

Selling candy at school is a great way to make money as a kid or a teenager. Here is how I do it and some tips.

   1. The first thing that I recommend doing before you buy any candy to sell is to make sure it is okay with your school to sell there. If it's not it is up to you whether you would like to or not but I highly discourage breaking school rules.

   2. The second step is to find out what types of candy (or snacks) kids at your school like. There are two ways to do this, one being simply going around asking your friends and classmates what their favorite candies are. the other way to find out what candies are popular at your school is to buy a variety pack of candy or snacks such as chips, and see which ones sell the best, and purchase those specifically in the future.

   3. The third step to becoming a successful seller of candy in school is to actually purchase the candy. Before going to the store have in mind what you want to buy, know your budget, and run the numbers at the store before you buy it. By "run the numbers" I mean calculate you total profit assuming you will sell out of the candy. This is done by simply calculating how much money you will make selling the candy and subtracting the cost of it. For example if I bought 50 chocolates, for $10 and I was going to sell them for a dollar each, I would make $40 profit ($50-$10=$40).

4.The fourth step is the biggest part, actually selling your candy. One very important rule is always do your best not you eat your candy! have a set price and sell it for that much, don't bargain with anyone, and it is up to you to take IOU's from friends that you know well. A rule of thumb as far as pricing goes is and full size snack should be around $1. Trying to sell everything for one dollar is a great way to maximize profits, but sometimes you will need to sell two or three for a dollar. This is much better than selling them individually for less than a dollar each.\

   5. The fifth and final step is to take all of your money, decide how much you want to keep and go back to the store to use the rest to buy more candy. From here just repeat steps 3 and 4 and you will become a successful candy salesman at school.

Stay tuned for part 2 where i will give you some tips and tricks, and tell you all of my best selling snacks and candies. I hope this helped all you young entrepreneurs!
